NATIONAL RESERVE
NEW MOVEMENT PROGRESSING. The movement to form a National Reservo in Wellington is meeting with an enthusiastic response in Wellington City and the suburbs, according to Mr. Leslie, the hem. secretary. That official has received on offer from the City Tramways Band, placing tho band at the disposal of the Reserve whenever required. It is understood that the whole of the tramway employees are desirous of joining the Reserve, and Mr. Leslie is to address a meeting at tho Thorndon tramway building to-mor-row afternoon. Meetings are being held in all parts of tho city and suburbs with gratifying, results. At a meeting of the committee held last evening reports were received from tho various enrolment sub-committees, the result being that the whole of 500 or 600 forms issued after last week's meeting have been taken up. Further,arrangements were made in connection with tho public meeting to be held in tho Town' Hall immediately after the holidays. The Mayor (Mr. _J. P. Luke) will preside, and there will be present the Prime Minister, the Minister of - Defence, Colonel A. W. Robin, 0.C.,' and the city and suburban members of Parliament.
The movement is flourishing in the other centres, particularly in Otago and Southland, where Colonel Stoneham, Officer Commanding the Reserve, has 5000 men undergoing military instruction. Mr. Leslie is to deliver an address at Hataitai this evening. SECTION AT ISLAND BAY. A meeting, held in St. Hilda's School100m last night for the purpose of . forming a section of the Reserve, was largely attended. Mr. A. Wells presided and after a few opening remarks, called on Mr. E. J, Colley to read, the correspondence, which included a long letter from Lieut.-Colonel A. Stoneham, Commander of the Otago District, containing full particulars of the formation of the Dunedin Branch of the Reserve, and also a statement as to the general regulations and the constitution of the Reserve.
Mr. A. E. Odlin then moved: "That this meeting of Island Bay citizens resolves to form a section of the Wellington Branch of the National Reserve." t Mr. E. K. Howe seconded the motion, which, after brief discussion, was carried unanimously.
An executive was then elected as follows Chairman, Mr. A. Wells; committee, Messrs. C. N. Hasla'm, J. O. Shorland, E. J. Colley. T. J. Glover, J. Beckett, E. H. Barton, F. Huggins, T. Ponder, R. J. PeDtecost. and A. E. Odlin. ?
Towards the close of the meeting ■thoso present sicked the enrolment forms and promised to spread the movement among other residents. It is expcctod that the membership of tho section will soon number some hundreds.
