WAIHI BEEFS-GIGANTIC. The mine manager of the Waihi Eeef«•Gigantio reports on the operations at tho mine for the week past as follows:—The contract work in north cross-cut, at 10C0 feet level, has advanced 20 feet, making tho distance from shaft 78 foet. During the week we have passed through some strong mineral seams, which seemed to bo increasing in size, and the country in the face has quite the appearance of what we term "reef country," and 1 am keeping an anxious look-out for quartz. The south-cast face has been at a standstill, pending the preparing of vontilating and water-piping. This is now ready, and both faces will be kept going. If any change in face it is even more favourable than laet week.
Machinery is still working well, and there is no increase of water from shaft or crosscuts, indicating that tho country is being drained by the loads system into the adjoining mines. In fact the cro6s-cute are porfectly dry and face has to be sprayed to lay dust and reduco heat.
