SWIMMING.

WELLINGTON CENTRE MEETS. An unusual position arose at the annual meeting of the Wellington Centre of the Now Zealand Amateur Swimming Association held on Friday evening ill the Y.M.O.A. rooms, when Mr. G. S. Hill presided over an attcndauce of eloven delegates. Before commencing business, the chairman pointed out that, according to a rule passed on March 4, no club could be represented by moro than one delegate. Mr. Harris, a delegate from the Thorndon Club, stated that a mistake had been mado, as, in his opinion, the motion was not passed. Two delegates (Mr. A. W. Smith and himself) had been appointed by his club, and unless 1 fchoy would be permitted to participate in the business of the meeting they preferred to withdraw.

The withdrawal of Thorndon's delegates left only nine other , present, and as ten constituted a quorum; the formal business could not ho carried on. Aftor further discussion amoug those present, it was agreed to carry on business, for confirmation at another meeting. ' Owing to the absence in Sanioa of the treasurer, a definite statement of finances was not procurable but thero was placed before the meeting details which were regarded as practically correct. The excess of assets over liabilities was £3 6s. 2d., while there was a debit bank balance of £1 17s. lOd. The report showed that the 1913-14 season was a successful one. The most important event was the visit to Wellington _of Mr., Harold Hardwick, of Australia, but the centre regretted that the 'Wellington public did not take the opportunity of seeing such a fine swimmer. In connection with an item in the that the Wellington team had secured the water-polo banner in the sonior competition, Mr. Wilton asked if that was meant to imply that tho Welligton team had won the competition. On receiving a reply in the affirmative, he Baid that the Swifts Club had lodged a protest with the New Zealand. Association against this team, and owing to some difficulty no decision had yet beep arrived at. A motion by Mr. Wilton ; to tho effect that the water-polo senior result is still in doubt pending the New Zealand Association's decision on an appeal, was carried. With the exception of this clause the report and balance-sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr. T. Ronayne; chairman, Mr. G. S. Hill; lion, secretary, Mr. A. M. Fan-all; treasurer, Mr. J. S. Stevenson; delegate to New Zealand Association, Mr. Baxter O'Neill. Other offices were held open. The Worser Bay Club was granted permission to hold a carnival at Worser Bay on January 22. The application of tho Y.M.C.A. Masterton Club to hold a carnival at Masterton on February 18 was gTanted. Mr. Len Blundell asked if it would bo possible to have tho woodwork at I'e Aro Baths repaired. Other members also considered that the matter needed immediate attention. LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY'S AWARDS!
