A RABBI'S DEATH
KILLED ON THE BATTLEFIELD M. Abraham Bloch, Chief Rabbi of Lyons, who was on the battlefield while acting as military chaplain, had been previously for several years Chief Rabbi of Algiors. _ As a tribute of respect a servico to his memory was held last month in the Synagogue of that city. The service, which was most impressive, was attended by numerous Jews and Christians, conspicuous among tho latter being the GovernorGeneral of Algeria. A touching discourse was delivered by M. He was in the midst of tho fighting for tho purpose of tending .Towish 6oldiers and bringing to them spiritual consolation when lis was called to the sido of a dying trooper who was a Roman Catholic. Tho poor fellow bogged the Rabbi, wha ho probably imagined was a priest, ta exhibit before his eyes, that were closing in eternal sleep, the symbol of his faith and giro him his blessing. It wat while holding a crucifix before tho mortally wounded warrior and whispering to him words of comfort that the Rabbi fell a victim to au enemy missile.
