STRIKES FEARFUL STORM OFF EAST CAPE. (By Telegranh.—Press Association.) Cisborne, December 21. Early this evening residents of AVainui observed distress rockets out to sea, and communicated with tho town. Tugs put out, and are just entering tho bay with a distressed vessel in tow. Morse signals state that the vessel is tho scow Irene. When one hundred miles off East Cape, sho struck a- fearful storm. All her sails were blown away, and tho vessel was badly strained. Subsequently sho was blown down tho coast until picked up as stated. No details will bo availablo for two or three hours, until tbu lugs briny tho vessel in.
