JOTTINGS FROM PROVINCIAL . CENTRES. (From Our Special Correspondent!.) MASTERTON. Mr. H. H. Beetham, of Brancepeth, has donated £100 to the Belgian Relief Fund. This brings the cash donations to the local fund up to £433. . Besides this, tho settlers of the Wairarapa have donated 1200 sheep and ten bullocks, of an approximate value of £1000, and a considerable portion of the district is not yot canvassed. Two teams from the Masterton Bowling Club will compete at the tournament to be 'held in Wellington at the end of the present month. The following candidates were successful at the recent theory of musio examinations of the Associated Board of the R.A.M.: —Local centre rudiments: Doris Mary Hollings, Clara G. R. Quaintrell, Ella Frances Yule, Isabella M'Gill. The monthly meeting of directors of the Masterton Co-operative Dairy Company was held on Saturday. The manager reported the butter made for November to be 45,9341b., of which 608 boxes had. been sent for export. The continued dry weather had affected the supply of cream, but not to the same extent as in the previous' month. It was decided to pay out lid. per lb. for butter-fat supplied during December. Very heavy first drafts of lambs have been taken this season, and the capacity of the freezing works is being soverely taxed. Masterton fanners are refusing £5 per ton for the new season's oaten sheaf chaff. Some of the oat crops in the Masterton district are this year badly affected with blight. On the application of P. S. Barron, farmer, of Parkvale, J. Coulter was on Saturday adjudicated bankrupt. CARTERTON. , The Carterton Tradesmen's Association has decided to include Saturday in the New Year holidays, so that tho shops will close from the Thursday night to Monday morning. The attendance at the Carterton District High' School during the past reached such a high standard that the school has become entitled to another assistant, and Miss M. O Armstrong has been appointed to the position. _ The Wairarapa Automobile Association has decided to suggest to the Carterton Borough Council that .the cab stands be removed from the centre of the streets, and also that the stands be not on the main street.' ■_ Mr. S. C. Ivens, of the Fields' Division of the Department of Agriculture, returned, to Carterton from a trip to England on Wednesday. ' The Methodist Sunday School has' donated £5 to the Mayor's Belgian Relief Fund, instead of devoting it to prizes this year.

The annual picnic and prize-giving under tho auspices of the Belvedere School took place on Friday afternoon. During the proceedings the children presented Mr. R. Stout, tho headmaster, with a handsome pipe and tobacco pouch as a token of their esteem. The Waingawa School picnic took place on Friday, Sir Walter Buchanan giving out the prizes. A most enjoyable outing was held, the children having races and games of all kinds. When Sir Walter left the scene he was_ played off by the bagpipes, Mr. Martin being the piper, and the children sang "For He s a Jolly Good Fellow._
