JULIUS KNIGHT SEASON

The advent of Julius Knight in "A Royal Divorce," at the Opera House on Saturday next is being looked forward to by the playgoers of Wellington, and the number- of inquiries which have already been made regarding the booking arrangements indicates that there will be a large demand for seats when the plans are opened on Wednesday morning. Few plays during the last decade .have stirred more deeply the romantic emotions of millions than W. G. Will's Napoleonic play, "A Royal Divorce." A 6eries of magnificent stage pictures and an air.of history and romance entwined, pervade characters and acting aliko, while over all looms the mighty shadow of the man of destiny. It can only be expected that the vival of this play during the present crisis of the world's affairs is vastly welcome, and one can understand the enthusiasm displayed over its revival in Australia, and the several tableaux representing "The Retreat from Moscow," the first intimation of the setting of Napoleon's star, and the Emperor exhorting his Old Guard to make a last desperate attack at Waterloo, tho chargo of the British, and the destruction of his hopes and tho lonely exile on the rock at St. Helena. Nothing more deeply touching can be imagined than the sorrows of the unfortunate Empress Josephine, and tho hearts go out in sympathy to her in her trials. Tho whole of the production will bo staged with new and magnificent .scenery, dresses, and properties. Seven performances only can be given of "A Royal Divorce," and it will give way on Monday, January 3, to, "Tho Scarlet Pimpernel," which will bo staged for two nights. On Wednesday, January G, and two following evenings "Tho Sign of the Cross" -will be revived, and on Saturday and Monday, January 9 and 11, "Tho Silver King" will he produced. Tho season will close with three performances of "Monsi'our Beaucaire." Tho box plans for "A Royal Divorco" will be opened at tho Dresden oil Wednesday next at 9 a.m.
