TROOPER BADLY INJURED
FOUND ON THE RAILWAY LINE. Just about midnight on Saturday, when a Trentham resident (Mr. Ernest Raulston) was passing near the Trentham railway station He heard moaning' coming from the vicinity of tho railway track. Ho went in the direction of the sound, and found Andrew Davidson, a privato in the_ Wellington Infantry, who had been in camp with the troops at Trentham, lying alongside the rails in a semi-conscious condition, and with his left haiid and wrist badly crushed, and ■ a nasty Bcalp wound. Mr. Raulston bandaged Davidson up as well as he could, and then hurried across to the camp for assistance." 1 An ambulance was sent to the scene, and the injured man was attended to by Surgeon-Captain Fyffe. A special train convoyed Davidson into town early on Sunday morning, and ho reached the Public Hospital at 3.30 a.m. Later, an operation was performed, and : his left hand amputated. He is progressing satisfactorily.
