' - ULIMAROA SERIOUSLY DELAYED. After a smart run of a little over twelve hours, the Huddart-Parker steamer Uliniaroa orriTed at Wellington from Lyttelton last evening. Tho reason given for her late arrival is that trouble had been causod by firemen on the trip from Wellington to Lyttelton on (Vednesday evening. On making inquiries on'board tho vessel last evening, a Dominion reporter was informed that the stokehold orew had refused to work • when the Ulimaroa had bleared Wellington Heads on the southern trip, and in consequonco some of'the'officers and the engineers had to do the firing. Evidently matters were, righted, as the Ulimaroa left Lyttelton at 6.30 a.m. yesterday, and arrived in port at 6.50 p.m. On account of the serious delay tho vessel did not get away from Wellington for Sydney and Hobart till an early hour this morning. CHRISTMAS TRAFFIC ARRANGEMENTS. Adequate arrangements have been made by the Union Company to meet the demands of the passenger traffic daring the Christmas end New Year holidays in the Wellington-Lytetlton, end • Welllngton-Pic-ton-Noieon' services. Extra steamers have been put on, and in certain cases timetable runnings have been accelerated. Intending passengers should note that it Is essential that they should bo on board tho steamers some timo before their advertised time of departure, as indications point to heavy bookings. In connection with tho Wolllngton-Lyttel-ton. service, arrangements have been made for the Huddart-Parkor steamer Victoria to follow tho Maori and Monowai from Wellington on Christmas Eve. The Victoria is sohcdnled to sail et 10.30 p.m. for tie southern port. MESS TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. A. Sadler has joined the Takapuua as chief engineer, and. Mr. Davies as second. Mr. A. D. Smith, late of tho Kavna, has joined tho Takapuni as purser. Mr. G. M. Morns, Ploton agent for the Union Company, hoe been granted extended leave of absence, and Mr. Wood, relieving officer, has been appointed to succeed Mr. Morris. A total of 16,187 bales of wool were taken from Dominion ports for London by the Scales chartered steamer Mes6ina, which i cleared Wellington on Thursday afternoon. The new steamer Queen Margaret, now discharging timber at Sydney from Puget Sound, has been chartered by the New Zealand Shipping Company to load at Domin- . ion ports for Loudon, in place of the Cranley. The Queen Margaret will commence her loading at Auckland, and is expected to arrive there ahout December 25. , She will afterwards visit Gisborne, and then Napier and Wellington, to complete her loading. Tht Queen Margaret was built at Port Glasgow in 1912 by Messrs. K. Duncan and Company, Ltd., and is owned by the Dunlop Steamship Oompany, Ltd.
It is roported that the Maoriland Steamship Company's Ennerdole has left Newcastle coal laden for Wellington. The vessel is expected to arrive here next Wednesday morning. , An expected arrival at Wellington from London, via way ports, next Tuesday, is the 0. and D. liner Indrapura. Rho will bo dispatched for Gisborne on December 27 to commence Homeward loading'. It will be early on Christmas morning beforo the Indrabarah will dear Wellington for London. Official advice, has' heen received by the local agents of the Shaw. Savill and Albion Company stating that R.M.S. Talnui, which left Wellington on November-6, arrived at London on December 16, having gained two day 6 on the journey. The Government training ship Amokura left the Wool Wharf, Wellington, yesterday afternoon for her usual anchorage in the stTenm. She will lay up for the holidays, and her cadets will be granted their onnuol leave. The Amokura will leave port for the Koririfldoo Islands about the middle of next month. It has been' decided to hold a Magisterial Inquiry into the collision between the .Northern Company's' paddle-steamor Whakatere and the ketch Katie 5.,, which occurred in Auckland, Harbour recently. Two nautical assessors havo yet to be appointed, and the date of ■ the inquiry has to bo fixed. . ■ Bad weather still prevails at Greymoiith. Latest information to hand stated' that there was a moderate "fresh" in the river and a heavy sea on the bar yesterday. The opinion was expressed that there was little prospect of any shipping movements during the day. A cablegram has been received by the head offico of thw Shaw, Savill Line stating that tho Pakeha arrived at London on December 17. The vessel left Wellington on the morning of November 6. After having taken in what cargo is offering at Gisborne and Auckland, the F.- and S. liner Buteshire will come on to Wellington to complete Homeward loading.. Doparture will be tnlten from this port for Avonmonth on January 6. According to telegraphic advice • received from Napier Inst evening a projeoted • departure from that port for Wellington at 6. p.m. was the Vacuum Oil Company's chartered steamer Calilcrjrove. The v'esEel left New York on Octoher 21 laden with for Now Eealan dports, and has already landed part of her cargo at Auckland and Napier.
