MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL
At last night's meeting of the Miramar Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr. F. Townsend) presided, and there were also present Councillors S. M. Stone, M. Tracy, H. Hawthorne, H. A. Smith, S. H. Underwood, tnd Dr. Edith Huntley. In reference to the slot telephone in Miramar North, the Mayor reported ,that he had seen the assistant-secre-tary of the Post and Telegraph Department and informed him that the council was not prepared to meet the eipenso (£27) of shifting the telephone from the tramway waiting-shed to Patterson's Storo. The Mayor made a suggestion that tho telephone should be provided with a stronger receptacle for the money, and that, if the telephone were left in the borough, tho council should indemnify the Department against any loss by theft. Tho Department was considering the matter. The Wellington Gas Company applied for permission to lay a .drain pipe under King's Road. The application was referred to the Borough Engineor with power to act. A letter was received from the Woreer Bay Swimming and Life-Saving Club asking for the promised subsidy on account of the purchase of a lifoeaving reel. Tho amount of £3 18s. was passed for payment. The Borough Engineer's report showed that during the month there had beon sevon additional connections to the water mains, and the number of consumers was now 362. Eleven permits had been issued for sewerage connections, making a total to date of 282.
