'—t) _ BREAKING-UP CEREMONY. A "break-up" ceremony was held at the Marnnui School yesterday,/ after- ] noou, and was largely attended by par- j outs.. The children sang patriotic | songs and Christmas carols. At the ] request of the School Committee the | prizes and certificates were presented | by Mrs. A. C. Blake. Short addresses ] were delivered by the headmaster and , by Mr. Horaco Baker, secretary of the i school committee. Mr. H. A. Chap- , man. of the School Committee, goner- , ously provided prizes for all classes in the school, and Mr. H. Crengel, stationer, Newtown, gave a gold medal for the dux. Hearty cheers were even for these donors, and the children , sang ''For He's a Jolly Good Fellow." After the prize distribution refreshments were served out. He also stated that no fewer than eight ex-Maranui pupils wero prize-winners this year at the secondary schools, and that the average ago of this year's Sixth Standard was thirteen years three months, and that the average age for the whole Dominion last year.was fourteen years.
