INDIAN MOSLEMS

EXPRESSION OP LOYALTY. A Mohamcdnn loyalty meeting was held in the Khalikdana Hall,- Karachi, attended by the leading local Mohamedan citizens, writes a Karachi correspoudent of the "Times of India" on November 26. Mr. Gulamali Chagla, who occupied, the chair, said: Sinco the outbreak of- tjie war we have met twice in' this hall to give',expression to our feelings of deep-rooted loyalty to the British Throne. _ This third time uf calling the meeting is because Turkey has Joined the war. We are here now _to express that this fact has in no \vay shaken the unflinching loyalty of our community. >< I have remarked on a previous occasion that this loyalty is not an idle sentiment, but is based on reason and prompted' by gratitude. It is known full well that it is in our interest to be loyal to the British, because, situated as we are, we cannot have a better regime based on a progressive policy than that which now exists. Wβ cannot be unmindful of the many advantages that, we enjoy, and of the blessings of peace, prosperity, freedom of speech, and safety of person and property established by the British. The mere accident of a Moharaedan King joining in the European conflagration has not shaken our loyalty, which is founded on solid grounds. Mir Ayub Khan of Las Bela kid great stress on the duty of Moslems- at the present time. That they would be loyal no one doubted, but passive loyalty was not enough." 4 They must be up and combating the vile slanders and lying tongues which .were being heard. Those present, being educated men, wero in the best position to do so,. and ho hoped that they would realise their responsibility, and put a check to every 'ying rumour and disseminate and countenance- nothing but tho truth.
