Craske, lato sub-manager at Lyttelton, has been appointed manager for the Uuion Company at InvercargiU. Mr. G. F. Wileon, late sub-manager at the Bluff, has been promoted to be manager for the Union Company at Lyttelton. , . . Mr. H. C. W. Blick, on. leaving the Dresden Piano Co., Ltd., to join the staff of Messrs. Bannatyne and' Co.i Ltd., was presented by the Dresden employees with a set of pipes. Among the visitors to Wellington ot the present time is Mr. Charles Stoddart, tho well-known English sportsman, who comes to Now Zealand nearly, every year to enjoy trout fishing. Mr. T. J. Callaghan, licensee of the Occidental Hotel, Palmereton .North, died at a private hospital in. that town on Monday from pneumonia. He was 41 years of age. At last night's meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board, refereuco was made to the recent death at Wauganui ' of Mr. F. A. Krull, who was one of the original members of the board, having represented the joint Wairarapa' County Councils from February, 1880, to February, 1881. A resolution was carried expressing sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. Krull. Mr. *J. H. Thorp, who has been the Government Orohard Lispector for the Nelson district for the past two' and a ' half years, has resigned from the Gov- '. eminent service, having accepted the ' position of supervisor to the Kaipara (Auckland) Fruit Lands., Development Association. An old and highly respeotod resident" of Wellington in the person of Mr. John Gallagher died at his residence, "Tullassa," Hopper Street, yesterdayevening. Mr. Gallagher had been an invalid for the past two years. He took a sudden turn for tho worse on Tues-\ day afternoon and died peacefully at a I quarter to seven yesterday evening. > Mr. Gallagher Was born at Letterkenny, County' Donegal, and in IB6o* came out to this country in the sailing ship Wild Duck, and settled in WeM liugton. Hβ joined the Defence Forces 1 aud took an active part in the Maori} War. After the war /Mr. Gallagher, joined the Terrace Gaol as warder, serV-i ing under the late Mr. Mackay Reid.) After many years'. service there he retired, and has since liyed with his wife and family at his residence in Hopper Street. Tho late Mr. Gallagher was a fine type of the early pioneer of the l colony, while' his military bearing stamped , him as a soldier. Hβ was an ■; authority on Irish affairs, and a very, deep reader of Irish literature. He leaves a widow, two sons (Messrs. John Joseph and Bernard Gallagher,/farmers in Dannevirko), and three daughters (Mrs. E. J- Fitzgibbon, wife'of MB. J. Fitzgibbon, barrister and solicitor of-this" city, and Misses Kathleen «nd Margaret Gallagher), The deceased gentleman's sister,, Mrs. M.
