ORDINAM MEETING. The ordinary meeting of tho committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday' afternoon. Mr. V. 11. Meredith presided. In the course of his report, Inspector Captaiu Henry stated that he had had a cow suffering from garget destroyed at Miramar. Hβ had received a complaint that two yellow-faced owls and two moreporks in the Zoological Gar-, dene were not sheltered from tho sun. Aa tho result of an inspection, he found the birds healthy and well cared for, and with plenty of room. A further case which came under his notice was that in which four crates of young pigs had been forwarded from Blenheim to Paltnerston North without having water to drink en route. He visited the goods yards, but found that the pigs had just left by the train, so wired to the Pdmerstou Society to inspect the pigs, and report to the Wellington Society. . Since last meeting a Miramar resident was fined £1, with costs 9s. 6d., for cruelty to hu horse by working it whilst it had sores on its back. It was decided to hold the next meeting on January 12.
