EUAHINB AT LONDON. A cablegram has been received stating thnJ. the New Piealand Shipping Company's K.M.S. Biiehine airived at London from Wellington on Friday, December 11. She sailed from hero on October 24, but wa3 compelled to return to port on account of a, leakage caused by a cargo port bein» insecurely fastened. The Ruahine cleared this port finally for London on October 31. AEAHUEA RUNNING LATE. Telegraphic advice has been received from Wcstport etatins that the ATahura lia-rf arrived α-t that port from Wellington at 6 p.m. on Monday. She had continued her journey on to Greymouth at 7 a.m. yesterday, and had arrived off the Tiver entrance at 1.5 p.m. It was stated that an endeavour was boins; made to dispatch her on the return journey at 11 p.m. Failing this, however, she was to have left Greymouth for Westport at 7 a.m. to-day. From the latter port the Arahura will come on to Wellington, calling at Neleon en route. She is duo here to-morrow morning, and will leave for Fioton as usual at 12.45 p.m., returning to Wellington the samo evening.
MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. D. M'Gregor, who was third officer of the Flora, has joined tho Mapourika in a similar capacity. News has been received of the death of Captain Blackstock, who for pome time post had command of the ship St. Mtrren. The vessel woe bound to Iquiquo from Cardiff, and in the early stages of the voyog= fell in with a hurricane. Captain Blackstock was carried overboard by a huge ee;i -which broke on board, and never seen ngain, nnd as the vcessl herself wa3 injured, tho chief officer decided to run for Monte Video. Captain A. M. Edwin, lato of tho Monowai, is now in command of the Maheno.haying relieved Captain D. M'Lean, who is in temporary command of the Tofua. Captain Kendall, of the Union Company's fervice, arrived in Wellington from Sydney by the- Ulimaroa yesterday. Captain Drydon, of the steamer Rosamond, has been appointed to command the Takapuna in tho Napior-Gisborne ferry service. Captain M'Arthur, managing director of the iMaoriland Steamship Company, left Wellington fo-r the ! south by the Maori last evening. ' i Cflptain J. An arrival at Hobart from London 'direct on Monday was the F. and S. liner Somerset. The vessel.has taken the place of the Buapehu in the mail service for a trip or so. and is due at Auckland at the ■end of this week. Her next port of call will bo Wellington. Overhaul and survey to tho Union Company's Taluipuna will be completed In time for her to leave Wellington for NαT;ier on Friday, December 18. She will leave the latter port for Gisborne on the oven ing of December 19, and wall continue rnnning in the ferry service between tho two ports till further notice. Latest moil advices from Sydney Btato that the steamers St. Ursula, and MoresHold have been chartered to load at Now York on behalf of the A. and A. Line for New Zealand and Australian ports. After an uneventful passage, the Hud-dart-Parker steamer Ulimaroa arrived at Wellington from Sydney at 6.30 a.m. yesterday. Departure will be taken from Wellington for Sydney and Hobart at 5 p.m. on Friday next.
When tho' Government training 6hip AmoUura, arrives at Wellington from Aliaroa this week-end, the boys'will be fronted their annual leave. It is anticipated that the vessel will make a trip .to tho Kermadccs next month. After having been laid up in the stream at WollinEtqn for some time the • small pte.amer ffaihi will bo towfid round to Evans Bay and will lay up new the Patent Slip. As the A. and A. Line's chartered steamer Westward-Ho is 41 days out from New York to Auckland, via Panama Canal, today, she should show up- at any time now. After discharging 700 tons of cargo the Westward Ho comes on to Wellington before proceeding to Australian ports to complete. Except the training ships Jfedwoy, Mersey, or Port Jackson, no sailing vessels have taken the wool berth in Australia for years past; consequently more than usual interest in centred in the prospects ahead of the ship Mount Stewart, which Messrs. Gilchrist, Watt and Sanderson, Ltd., have decided to load in Sydney. The vessel is at present on her way around from Adelaide to Sydney, and before commencing to receive cargo will, no doubt, dock for cleaning and painting. Cabled advices have been received stating that the Melbourne Company's new steamer Woolgar has left Avonmouth for Australia. She has on board a full cargo of general merchandise, shipped, it ie understood, on behalf of the F. and S. Line. The Taviuni is expected to return to Auckland about December 22 from tho Cook and Society Islands. The -vessel will lay up at Auckland till January, when sho will leave again during that month for the Eastern Pacific. At noon to-day tho Union steamer Corinna will be dispatched from Wellington for Piclon and Onehunga. Noon on Thursday. December 17, is the time appointed for the Jfew Zealand Shipping Company's liner Turakina to leave the Glasgow Wharf, Wellington, for London. Further advice has been received by the local agents for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company stating that H.M.S. Corinthic cleared London for Wellington, via Cape Town and Hobart, on December 11— pehedulo date. The liner Is duo at Wellington on January 26. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Tongariro is ducat Wellington from Tokomaru Bay on Friday, December 18. Departure will be taken from this port for London about Tuesday of next iveelt. For the purpose of completing Homeward loading," the 0. and D. Line's Star of New Zealand is due at Wellington from Port Chalmers to-day. She will be dispatched for London, towards the eiid of this week. Aβ arrangements have been made for tho Hichartlson steamer Ripple to pick up wool at East Coast stations, her usual trip from Wellington to Napier and Gisborne on Tuesday of next week has been abandoned.
