JAPAN AND THE WESTERN ALLIES
CO-OPERATION EULOGISED (Rca. December 15, 5.30 p.m.) London, December 14. "The Times" in a leading article observes, of Japan and the war:—"By shepherding Admiral Von Spec's squadiiito ■ waters where his ships met their doom, our Ja'panese Allies enabled us to complete the work they so gloriously began in capturing TsingTao. The co-operation of the Australian and Japanese squadrons, and the deference to Australasian susceptibili-, ties shown by Japan in handing over the Pacific Islands she captured to tfoo keeping of an Australian force, cannot but tend to modify the sentiments of the Dominions, which eometimes threatened to raise delicate problems in the Pacific. "It has demonstrated Japan's perception that the preservation and victory of the Entente are the strongest bulwark to'her position. By siding in this war with the nations who are upholding the principles and traditions of European civilisation, she is proving her right and fitness to take rank with the great world Powers."—"Timea" and Sydney "Sun" Services.
