ROUND THE HORN IN WAR TIE
DR. MAWSON'S STORY (Rec. December 16, 0.15 a.m.) London, December 15. Sir Douglas Mawson, interviewed in London, said that when passing Cape Horn the steamer took a southerly course to avoid the German Squadron. They found the lights of Port Stanley (Falkland Islands) extinguished. The vessel signalled asking for news, but they were ignored until it was known that she was British. The Falkland Islanders were afraid of a raid by ViceAdmiral Von Spec. The women were sent away or hidden in caves.
