The chief of the police of the Berlin suburb of Schoenoberß is anxious to diminish the number of people fined lot petty offences in his district, miny of them due to ignorance o£ local by-laws. Anyone found by the police breaking these regulations' for the first time is in fuituro to be given a pamphlet drawing his attention to the offence committed instead of being prosecuted as hitherto.
Bandmastor Devoto, of the Tottenham branch of the Salvation Army, has achieved the distinction of being tho first Salvationist to receive an honorary commission in tho British Army. Formerly private clerk to Sir John French for seven years, Bandmaster Devoto has been given the rank of honorary liuetenant and quartermaster, and is now attached to tho Royal Irish Rifles at Clandeboye, near Belfast, where he has superintendence of the clothing, feeding, and equipment of the .-battalion.
