FIRING A SHOT GUN
o ELDERLY MAN CHARGED. IBy Telegraph.—Press Association.) Ashburton, December 14. William G. Chambers, a middle-aged man, was charged at tho Police Court, this morning with firing a shot-gun at Peter Stewart, an elderly man, with intent to do grievous bodily harm. It appears that Chambers had a grievance against Stewart, who was a boarder at' Chambers's house. At 11.30 last night Chambers came home after a few weeks' absence and Stewart went out to see him. Chambtrs immediately fired three or four shots at Stewart with a single-barrelled shot-gun, one of the pellets striking Stewart on the chin. Accused was remanded! for a week, bail not being allowed.
