HUTT AND PETONE NEWS
(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Saturday afternoon a- sale of work in aid of tho Belgian Fund was held at tho residence of Mrs. R. W. Short, Bay Street, Potono. Tho nun' ous articles exhibited, were cither donated or manufactured by tho ladies of Bay Street, and about 65 persons attended tho sale. The Mayor of Petone (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) in oponing tho function, expressed the hope that tho example set by the hostess would bo followed by others, and referred to tho fact that Petouo had already contributed between £500 and £600, besides goods, to this praiseworthy object. Tho following wore the stallholders: —Afternoon 'tea stall, Mesdames Godber and Parker; sweets stall, Miss Violet Short; doll stall, Mis 6 G. Northover; bran tub, Miss Margaret Short; fancy-goods stall, Mesdames 11. W. Short and A. E. Wright. Business was brisk throughout the afternoon, and as a result between £12 and £13 will be handed over to tho fund. The proceedings were varied with the reciting of two appropriate poems by Miss Zita Chapman. Mrs. Short wishes to thank all who assisted in the work, and those who supported the sale. A- concert and social was held at St. James's Sunday School Hall, Lower. Hutt, on Friday evening, the Roy. A. L. Hansell presiding. The programme was supplied by the choir, under the leadership of Miss P. Parsons, and items wore rendered by tho Misses Knight and Parsons. A committee, consisting of Miss Stuart-Forbes, Mosdames Cameron, Kafor, and Woodward, attended to tho refreshments.
