For weeks past the city has been visited with abnormally consistent high winds, with now and then a . day's respite between .the big blow, just to emphasise the irritating conditions • that are marking the first month of summer; It blew a shrieking galo on Saturday afternoon, and bowliDg was more or less a matter of luck in such wind. .A player might allow'for a head . wind that did not come, and sometimes ... would "put 'in (i bit/' and find that'with the help of -.ii&'gale' that the only thing to provent. tiie'. bowl from, leaving ' the premises citowiher was the ditch. Asthe greens were .-very .dry and keen, .the. allowances ror green .resulted .ity some extraordinary rieads.'" The ovient' of the day was;the third round of the Pennants. A BEAUTIFUL BANNER i The establishment of the Dominion ■Bowling Association, which has taken over the control of bowling throughout the whole of the Dominion, • has instituted ... a, new honours.board for bowlers. Formerly there was a champion rink match for (the South. Island (New Zealand) and one I'or the North Island (Northern Bowling Association). In January of this year •the first Dominion championship was decided at Dunedtn, and to "mark the event the ladies of the Dominion Bowling Centre presented a very beautiful banner to the association. The winning rink '. was that representing the Wellington Club—G'renfell, Erskine, Thompson, and Porteous (skip)—and the banner which they won for their, club has only just arrived from the south. It is really a ■banner (not a flag), and is 'richly made of <lark blue corded silk, with the lettering emblazoned in gold satin and silk on the one side, whilst the reverse side is white satin, and lettered in gold silk are the .words, "1914, Wellington Club," the first of many such inscriptions. The banner, which should have its own pole and crossbar, is ornamented with a rich gold fringe, and the running gear for the cross-bar is of gold silk cord. The lettering on the face of the banner is as follows:—"The Dominion of New Zealand Bowling Association's Championship Banner. Presented by the ladies of the Dominion Bowling Centre." It is suggested that as this banner cannot be flow.ii from th« ordinary flagstaff, that it should be accompanied by a small V-shaped pennant—dark blue with a central gold star (for the winning year), which can lie hoisted to the staff-head on any club during the. year its representatives have won the' championship rink match. In view of the liberality of the Dunedin Indies, it is suggested that the comparative trifling cost of such a pennant (to bo kept by the club for all time), that the ladies of each centre where the championship is decided might be induced to provide the pennant,
