FREE WHEAT FOR AUSTRALIA
I, IMPORT. DUTY 'REMOVED. (RecDecember 13,- 5.5 p.m.) London, December 12.. Mr. Tudor 1 (Federal Minister for Cushas announced that the Government has decided to remove, as from noon yesterday, the duty of Is. 3d. per cent, on all wheat imported into the Commonwealth, his reason for acting being that the season's requirements for Australia were about 37,000,000 bushels, including 10,000,000 for seed, while the supplies were only about twothirds of that quantity. It was not intended to import free wheat for all time/ but in order to meet the present, emergency lie proposed to 'make it possible for it to be imported free: .".-•' After debate, which showed strong objection on the part of a number or members, a resolution was adopted endorsing'the proposal.
