A. Kendall.—The words of "Home, Sweet Homo" wore written by Howard Payne. The musio is attributed to Sir Henry Bishop, the air beinj; first heard in that composer's opera, "Clari," in 1823. Later, in 1831, Donizetti introduced it into his opora, "Ann Boloyn," and nu.ny gained the impression that he had composed it. Mr. Chhrles Mackay stated in the London "Daily Telegraph" of March 19, 1887, that Bishop, in an action for piracy and breach of copyright, mado oath to the fact of lub having composed the tune. Bishop was probably the most noted English composer of tho first half of the ' nineteenth century.
