The Right Hon. W. F. Massey will T)6 : in Wellington to-night. He arrives by tile afternoon train from Auckland.

At the end of this week, Dr. C. Chilton, professor of biology at Canterbury College,; will leave for a trip round the northern lighthouses in the Government steamer. Tutanekai. Other members of the party are Profes6or H. B. Kirk, of Wellington, and Dr. Morteusen, of Copenhagen. Dr. Oliilton will collect specimens of- crustaceans and other animals. The party will be away for about four weeks.

Councillors Toogopd, Percy, and Cock-burn-Hood have been appointed to represent the Masterton County Council on the Wairarapa Hospital Board.

Mrs. Hobson, an old resident of the Springfield district, died at her homo last week after a long illness She and her husband came to New Zealand from Melbourne in 1804, and settled in Pigeon Bay, where they resided for some years before going to Springfield. Mrs. Hobson was of a kindly disposition, and had made many friends. She leaves a family of four eons and three daughters.

The'funeral of the late Mr. H. P. Clayton, of "Chellaston," Lower Hutt, took place at Karori on Saturday afterhoon. • Deceased joined the staff of the Post and Telegraph Department at ,the of 14, and for tho last-14 years was in the Electrical- Department of tho New Zealand Railways. He was tlie son of the late Eichard Clayton, sheep inspector of Oamaru, and for many years stationholder now Wakatipu. He was also fhe nephew of the late Henry Gayton, colonial architect for New Zealand. Hβ leaves a widow, a son (¥. A. Clayton postmaster, Murchison), and a daughter (Mrs. G. M. Pickett, Bank of New Zealand, Cromwell, Central Otago).

Mr. J. W. Freemaa, who died at AVaimate on Friday, hud a -long connection with several Waimate institutions. He was a momber of the Racing Club for about thirty years, clerk of the course for a score of years, a' member of tho A. and P. Association, and at one time a member of the Borough Council. He was well known as a judgo in the horse classes at A. and P. shows, his last engagement in that position being at the Christchuroh show a fow weeks ago. He was trusted as a horse buyer and vendor, and made many trip's to Sydney in that capacity. -
