Nominations for the Highden Hack Handicap, to be run on the second day of the Manawatu meeting, close to-mor-row night, at 10 o'clock. Acceptances for the Woodville meeting close to-night, at 8 o'clock. - Weights ■ for the Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, and Taratahi meetings are due on ■Friday; ' ■-••-, . From Boxing Day, . December 26, to January 6 no fewer than twenty-one racing clubs in various parts of the country will ■ hold 'meetings, giving a total of thirty-nine. daya' racing. iUnless something unforeseen occurs, the Auckland Racing Club is likely to have a' splendid field in the Great Northern FoaT Stakes, and the contest should be a good one. With the elect of tho Chokebore stable, Arran, Sweet Corn,. Sutala, and Desert Gold engaged there is not likely to be any loafing on the way. N It is interesting to note that Banksia (Achilles—Tortulla), who has been paid up for in the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie, in which she has the nice impost of list, lllb., has also had her engagement in the Royal Stakes continued. The latter ovont is run on the third day of the meeting. There should be a good tfme in store for breeders who are fortunate enough to be in possession of horses suitable for remounts. It is understood that an unlimited supply will be required almost immediately. "- The Australian three-year-olds Woorak, Mountain King, and Carlita have won during their racing careers a total of .£25,049 in stakes. At the V.R.C. Benevolent Fnnd race meeting, held at Moonee Volley, last month, the Conqueror gelding Eongopai, ridden by J. O'Connell, ran third in the hurdle race. The fact that Sir Geo.' Clifford has left threo'-horeea in tho Great Nonthern Derby may mean that thero is a doubt about First Flight getting to tho post. The colt was sore at tho conclusion of tho racing at Riccarton, but he has been galloped frequently since. It is to' bo hoped that he will be qiiito right by- the time tho Derby comes on. .The Chokeboro colt seems to.bo made of Ithe.right stuff, for he has dona quite a lot'of travelling and racing this season, but he has stood up to it well, and his form at Riccarton was his best to date. That there is very lidtle difference between him and Roputation is an undisputed fact, and both colts have a legion of supporters. •
Peirene (Achilles—Bluewater), the beat two-year-old of her year, recently foaled a colt to Mr. G. P. Donnelly's imported horse Demosthenes. Conceit (Boniiorm— Lady Wayward) also owned by Mr. G. D. Greenwood, has' a filly to Demosthenes. Sc.; far Bon ; Ton hae beon a most expensiro purchase for the Victorian owner, who gave 1000 guineas for him last autumn, and up till now he has not won* a rstco for his new owner. The handicappera still treat the little fellow with the greatest respect, and he was given Bst. 131b. in the Bondigo Cup, won by TraSuetto, Bst. llbi, but it ie not known if ia • witarc ZeahnM iSWjeft,
racing at Randwick in the spring he was at any old price' in the market, but at Melbourne he started favourite in the V.R.C. Handicap, Which was the principal event on tho concluding day of the Cup meeting. However, he did no better than at Randvrick, and was well backed at tho finish. He stripped remarkably well. When the brown horse was successful hero it was noticeable that he always saved for one short run, and in any case he is certainly a better horse over distances up to twelve furlongs than over that. -. ; , FIXTURES.
