PROHIBITION & FIGURES
(By WeleETttDh.—Frees' iseoolatloiU Dunedin, December 7. Li reference to the Oamaru Press Association message questioning the accuracy of. some figures used by the opponents of Prohibition in a pamphlet, attention has Jbeen directed' to the following statement claimed to have beencompiled from Government statistics: — From 1900 to 1805, under License in Oamaru the Savings. Bank deposits in.creased £40,000 (in place of £53,000 as stated), and from 1905 to 1911, under No-Licchse, they decreased by £949. Againet these figures wore placed thosedealing with the-license district of NewPlymouth, where the increase in deposits' was" continuous throughout the ten-year period (1901-1911) i the figures being £136,570- and £301,693 respectively. ■It is contended that the point of tho statement is not materially affected by the mistako in taking the' total credits at the end of the year' for the deposits during tho year.
