THE KING IN THE TRENCHES
"NO REASON,WHY I SHOULD NOT TAKE RISKS." • London, December 6. The King has returned to London. The Central News Agency at Paris states that at a'certain point of the tour the staff suggested,to_ the King that it was not safe to .'visit trenches which were recently-the object of artillery fire. The King replied: "All the more reason why • I should -go there. There is no reason why I should not take risks; the soldiers take them." The King then went to the trenches and .chatted with the troops. ORDERS CONFERRED ON THE BATTLEGROUND. KING ALBERT AND SIR JOHNFRENCH HONOURED. London, December 6. While at the front, King George conferred upon King Albert of the Belgians the Order of the Garter, and upon Field-Marshal Sir John D. P. French, Commanding the British Expeditionary Force, the Order of Merit.. His Majesty presented Victoria Crosses to Naik Darwan Singh Negi, of the First Battalion of, the Garhwal Rifles, for valour on the battlefield; also to a sepoy belonging to the Duke of Connau'ght's Boluchis. >'
