ORGAN RECITAL.

'An-average sized audience attended the City Organist's recital in the Town Hall on Saturday evening, when a programme of a distinctly classical character was played by Mr. Bernard Page in his usual' polished style. Outstand-. iiig in musical excellence was the first movement from Tschaikowsky's enthralling "Pathetic Symphony" (No. 6) in B minor, a work of great solemnity and weird There were rainbow qualities in the "Eclogue" of Salome as played by the City Organist—a dainty rivulet of melody, Cesar Franck is always interesting, as liis style is so free and spontaneous, yet is proportionate, in construction and appealing in its melodic grace. These qualities abounded in the "Prelude, Fugue,- and Variatim" of the Belgian composer. Handel's Concert in D minor, arranged for the organ by Quilmanfc, the renowned French organist and composer (for whom iho organ - world is still fresh in, mourning), is remarkable for the insertion after the first sprightly allegro movement, of the charming aria' for strings from the composer's Twelfth Concerto. In light relief' Mr. Page opened the second half with the cool, placid "Idylle'f of E. d'Every, and conoluded the recital with a masterful performance-of the great Karg-Elert's forceful and beautiful "Sonatina in A Minor." Another recital will be given on the Town Hall on Saturday evening nest.
