LIBERAL LEAGUE IN REPLY
•TO REFORM MANIFESTO. On Saturday evening at Wellington a meeting' was held by the Executive Council of the Liberal League to consider the Reform manifesto issued at Auckland on December 4, 1914. All the delegates were present. Tho following resolution waß passed and authorised for publication:— ■ (1) That the statement'contained in the Reform manifesto to the effect that there is an alliance,, understanding, or agreement between the Liberal Party and the Red Federation is untrue in substance and in fact; and moreover must be known to be untrue- by the Reform Executive. (2) Tliat Mr. W. H. Tumbull, who carries the Liberal banner in Wellington. North, is tho Liberal candidate selected by the Liberal Party to fight the Red Federation's representative, viz., Mr. H. Holland, while the attempt by such Federation to -break up Mr. W. H. Turnbull's meeting in Sydney Street_ proves that tho _ Reform statement is merely an election dodge. (3) That the fact that tho political slanders of the past! in reference to pigeon-holes, pickings from loans, and the gift of the Dreadnought are now no longer believed by the electors of tho Dominion against the Liberals has compelled the Reform Party to descend to mere abuse of the Liberal, Party as an election cry, while tho-attempt to brand all opponents of Reform as .Red Feds is not worthy _ of a political party which prates of purity. • (4) That the Hawera branch of the Liberal League through the executive protests rigorously against the denunciation by the Right Hon. the Prime Minister of those electors of Hawera who he denounced as Red Feds from the platform when speaking in Hawera recently because many appeared at his meeting with red ribbons in their but-ton-holes, such ribbons having been handed to those electors who on the day of the Prime Minister's visit had been decorated by the nurses of Hawera with such ribbons when they, subscribed on that date to the. collection raised by such nurses for the Belgian Fund. (5) That'the Liberal Party stands for social reform without- social hate, and believe that tho bulk of the people will subscribe to sucha platform(6)'.That the Liberal Party considers that the Reform Party only adopts the tactics above referred to because it realises that the Liberals are winning the presont election.
