On Thursday evening a concert was held in the Y.M.C.A. Hall, Willis Street, the object being to raise funds to promote a Christmas camp for No 42 Kilbirnie Senior Cadet Company, Lieutenant R. H. Nimmo, O.C. The company, 130 strong, marched from. their drillhall at Hataitai to the Y.M.C.A. Hall, to the music of their own new bugle band as far as Newtown, -where they were joined by the Central Mission JJand. On arrival at the Y.M.C.A. the hall was found-to be packed to overflowing, many being unable to gain admission. The concert itself was a thoroughly enjoyable one ; the Mayor, Mr.' J. P, Luke, in the chair, the programme being made up of really good performers. During the evening the Mayoress, Mrs. Luke, presented the ladies' silver cup to the winner for the year, Sergeant Gray, after which Lieutenant Ninimo, O.C, addressed those present, thanking them for their support to the company's first Christmas camp, and ' emphasised the importance of the senior cadet movement. He said that never since the inauguration of the present New Zealand Territorial scheme was the senior cadot 'movement of greater importance than at the present moment, as the.senior cadet parade ground is the recruiting base for the Territorials. Under the present war conditions wo havti to rely to a great' extent on the f-enioi - cadets for our future reinforcements.
