THE MAMARI FROM LONDON. The Shaw. Savill and Albion Company's liner Mamari arrived in port at. a Quarter to one yesterday afternoon, after an uneventful journey from London, via way ports. The voyage extended oyer seven week 3 all but two days. The vessel left London on October 16. Fine weather was experienced to Capo Town, -which was reached on November 7. Nothing of importance occurred on the passage except being stopped and examined by French cruisere guarding the mouth of the Channel. Departure from Cape Town was 1 not token until the afternoon of the 9th on account of a shortage of labour and coal, duo to war conditions prevailing. From the Cape to Hobart exceptionally fine weather was experienced for that part of the ocean. Hobart was reached on November 28, where passengers jnd mails landed, and also 800 tone of cargo discharged. The Mamari left Hobart on November 30, and fine weather was experienced to Wellington. - Captain R. A ; Kelly is still in command, and .has associated with liim the following officers!— First officer, Mr. F. E. Lambert; second, Mr. 0. E. Goodyear: third, Mr. V. Kenworthy; fourth, Mr. J. Nielson. THE HIMITAHGI. According to a wireless message received from Waltangi, Chatham Islands, the Himitangi arrived there yesterday from Wellington. The vessel, whioh left this port on Monday evening, is to proceed, to Lyttelton before returning to Wellington. MESS-TABLE, GOSSIP. Mr. o.' E. Goodyear, second officer of the Mamari,, was promoted to that. position when the vessel was in London. Messrs. V. Kenworthy and J. Nielson, third and fourth officers respectively of .the same vessel, are making their, first trip on a Shaw-Savill boat to these parte. Mr. Amies, of the Union Steam Ship Com-, pany, returned to Dunedin by the Mokoia last' night for orders. •He has been relieving for some time past in the local office of the company, Captain Neville is ill command of the Willochra, with the following; officers under him Mr. Ryan, chief; Jlr. Hughan, second; Mr. Luxfurd, third. On account of the boisterous weather experienced '• at Port Chalmers during the past few days, the schooner Rachel Cohen lias been unable to gb on the 6lip for her overhaul, which will include the strengthening of her timbers and framing. This sturdy little craft has now seen about 40 years, of active service in colonial waters. After having completed discharge of New York cargo fit Dunedin, tjie chartered steamer Purley, recently at Wellington, ■ will probably proceed to Australia to load for Europe. . The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Turakina is at present engaged in taking in Home cargo at Napier. Other ports will bo visited before the vessel de-parts-from Wellington for London on. December 17. Since she left the builders! hands the Union Company's Mokoia has been supplied with steam from three Scotch, marine typo boilers, but as these have proved to be Inadequate to meet present requirements they fiTe to be supplemented shortly by the installation of a Babcock and Wilcox water-tube boiler, i A. London shipping journal understands that the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company has just contracted with Messrs., Workman, Clark, and Co., Belfast, and Messrs.. Alex. Stephen and Sons, Linthouse, for the construction each of a, large high-class passenger and cargo steamor for the Australasian trade. .
