ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
' MOTOBrOAR ACCIDENT.: ■• Travelling by motor-car through the Wairarapa on Thursday, Mr. &., W. Hean, of Wanganui,- met with a nasty accident : When nearly twenty miles from Masterton. In' negotiating a horseshoe bend the car swerved, went uver an embankment, .turned a somersault, and landed about forty foot from the edge of the road. When Mr. Hean regained consciousness he was lying.on the far side of tho car from the road. He must have been carried right round .by the car, and then ehot out on to the ground. Mr. Hean succeeded in walking about two and a half miles to Mr. lsakson's__ house at ,Hustwell, where he receive'u every attention. ■■'.-••An examination of his injuries ■ showed that beyond a few cuts and bruises, and a serious shaking up, Mr. Hean was none the worse for his remarkable experience. YOUNG MAN'S SUICIDE. (By Meeraph.—Press Association) DunedUi, December 4. John Hancock, aged 25, son of J. H. Hancock, St. Clair, shot himself this morning, death -being instantaneous. He had been in ill-health. An inquest was held; this afternoon on the body of John Hancock. The evidence showed that deceased had suffered from influenza latterly, and had ! complained- of' liver trouble, which "caused Mm to■ be depressed.at times. He was at a.friend's houee last night, and appeared in .his usual spirits, and had made an appointment for to-night. The Coroner found that death was .due to a gunshot wound in tho head, selfinflicted while the deceased was in a temporary state'of insanity. , KILLED IN THE BUSH. ■■;■ Gfsborne, December 4. • Alfred Bachelor, aged ,55. a married man. was killed in the bush by a tree falling back on.him. A ; verdict of .accidental death was returned.
