Nominations for the Stratford meeting close on Monday next. The Wanganui owner,.Mr. Wiri Tokena, was the principal buyer at the wle of Mr. D. Eraser's yearlings He purchased the Advance —Seagnll, colt for 230gns., and the full brother to Expect foi 200gns. The defection of Thrax, Bantaia, end Camnlus has loft Troon at-the head of the list in the Hororata Cup, to bo decided on Saturday. Amongst the starters will be the imported maTo Flower of the West. It was noticeable that the chestnut was finishing very fast at the end of her race at tho New Zealand Cup meeting.. . It should be ndted that acceptances for the first ■ day's handicaps at the Woodville meeting close on Tuesday, December 8, at 8 p.m. Entries for the Maiden and Scurry are duo at the samo time. With the mishap to Expect and the tjoor fo"""\ 6hown by 'the other members of the Highdcn team, notably Pariform and Bortradn, it does pot look as if the prominent Awapuni stable is in for a good season.'' Trainor G. Price evidently does not view his prospects hopefully, as ho has priced several first-class horses lately, but their owners are not desirous of selling. Under tho circumstances, it will come as no surprise to find him looking further afield for a couple of good horses to carry the Highdeu livery. Roumania, who scored in tho Fitzroy Hack Handicap at Fcilding, is being'sent north to fulfil his engagement in the Great Northern Derby. Tho hack events at Ellershe are not usually hard to win, and the half-brother to Odessa may pick up a race ere ho returns home, Tho Dunedin sportsman, Mr. L. C, Haulott, intends paying another visit to Australia early next year. Ho will take with him his recent purchnse, Palisade; and the Charlemagne II mare Sister Radius, who was taken to Melbourne early this year, but met with a mishap on the boat which prevented her showing her best form. Bortrada performed a lot better on the opening day of the Feilding meeting, when she finished just behind the placed Jiorsoa ja 'tho. Flying Stakes, than ea«. did
on the second day, when the going was heavy. In tho York Stakes she was tailed off at 'the finish. If it was the mud that stopped her she differs in this respect from her full sister Carlita,.-who scored in the V.R'.C. Derby in . heavy, going. . '
