MAGISTRATE'S COURT
; POLICE CASES ALLEGED ASSAULT ON TRAM CONDUCTOR , Mr. D. G..A. Cooper, S.M., presided over a short sitting of the police business of the Magistrate's Cpurt yesterday morning. Two young men, John William Canty and John Sydney Guildford, were charged with assaulting George Jones, a tramway conductor,- ' Mr. H. F. O'Leary, who appeared for both, asked for -a remand to Friday next as both had been- arrested about 10. o'clock <jh Monday night. Mr. O'Shea intimated that there were several witnesses in Court and applied for expenses. , ' Mr. O'Leary said the matter of ex-, penses. should stand over till the case was decided. "I understand," said Mr. O'Leary, ''thai' both defendants went to the assistance of an old man who was dragged along by the tram." . The Magistrate agreed to this and the case was accordingly remanded to Friday, bail being allowed ia £10 each. For drunkenness Clara Algar, a prohibited person, was fined 205., in default two days! imprisonment, and Alexander M'Leaa fined 10s. Three first offenders were dealt with. A separation case in which Rahere Muriwai Uru sought a separation and maintenance order from John Hopere Wharewiti Uru, on the grounds of cruelty, failure to maintain, and habitual drunkenness was adjourned until to-morrow. Mr. D. R. Hoggard appeared for complainant arid Mr. W. G. Bailey for defendant.
CIVIL OASES. A claim for money lent was heard before Mr.-'W. G. Biddell, when T. and TV. Young, wine and spirit merchants, sued Mrs.E. E.. Howell for £109 Bs. 2d., which, sum it was alleged was lent plaintiffs by defendant on May 14, 1911, also £11 Bs. lOd. for goods claimed to have been supplied on June 4, ■ 1913. After hearing the evidence the case was adjourned to 10 o'clock on Saturday morning. Mr. T. Young appeared for plaintiffs and Mr. A. TV. Blair for defendant. The Inspector of Awards (Mr. H, E. Maston) proceeded against Harold Waldairyman, of Kilbirnie, for employing a. boy in a milk cart and failing to pay him the award rate of £2 6s per week. A fine of 10s. was imposed. It was stated that defendant had been paying the boy employee, who was 11 years old, 3s. 6d. a week for working'a few hours every morning. As there is no provision in the' award for boy labour the weekly wage should have been £2 6s.

JUDGMENT SUMMONS. John Cornelius Ryan was ordered to Day. Mullis and Lamberg £1 2s, before
December 15 in default 24 hours' imprisonment.
OTHER CASES. ■ Edward AVhitehead proceeded against Mrs. A. Morton for possession and rent (£7 10s.). Judgment was for plaintiff with possession under • warrant. Costs (£1 195.) wore allowed. Bates and Lees were given judgment against Te Heu'lieu Tukino for £3 14s. with costs £1 os.
CLAIM. FOR £1000 DAMAGES
(By Telegraßli.—Prose Association.) Wanganul, December 1. The Supreme _Court opened to-day. Mr. Justice Stringer is engaged in a rehearing of the civil case Frances Mul liner v. Joseph Ivess, a claim for £1000 damages for alleged indecent' assault This case was heard at last session' of the Supremo Court, when the jury disagreed. The local Law Society welcomed Mr Justice Stringer, •as it was the first time he had presided at the Court in Wanganui.
