A meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. J. S. Jameson presided, in the absence <f the president (Mr. V. R. Meredith). A vote of condolence was passed to Mr. R. H. Webb, in tie loss of his brother. The inspector reported on over half a dozen cases of alleged cruelty to horses in different parts of the town. In a case of cruelty to sheep, through overcrowding,, he prosecuted, and a conviction and fine of £2 was inflicted. He intended to bring a case to the Court on December 11 for alleged cruelty to a horse. Collections for the fortnight amounting to £10 18s. were noted, showing a marked improvement on tho collections for some time past. The donors were:— Mrs. J. Burne and C.
