M'Govern, of the head office staff of the New Zealand Railways, was presented by the •members of the staff with a handsome H and serviceable set of cutlery on the occasion of his marriage, which took place on Monday last. The presentation was made by the General Manager, Mr. E. H. Hiley, in, a neat and appropriate speech, to which the recipient made-a suitable response. Mr. A. W. Schaef, the pioneer of aviation in Wellington, and a: wellknown Press photographer, arrived back yesterday, from a trip to England, whither he went to inquire into- the aviation and motor industry from a business point of view. He stated that the motor business at Home was feeling; the effects of the war rather severely, but ■was now recovering slowly. .'. Keltiej which' ocearred at' Greytov/n on Monday morning. The deceased very well known in tho Wairarapa. Sh3 had been suffering for some time past with heart trouble. She leaves a husband and a family of six young children, to whom the sympathy of a wide cirsle of friends will be extended. ■ There died on Monday at his residence, Feilding, after a long illness, Mr. Robert M. Reid, who was a link with. the early settlement of New Zealand, being a son of the late Thomas and Mrs. Reid, who were among the first residents of Wellington. It is interesting to note that Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Reid came out in the ship Bengal Tiger in 1840, which'was one of the first ships to land on Petone beach. Mr. Robert Reid was born at Upper Hutt. His parents removed to the Wairarapa, and Robert joined the Carterton volun? teer company. He was one of the volun'teers at the time of the Parihaka campaign, and afterwards was promoted to lieutenant. He came to Feilding about the year 1884, and joined his brother William in the Makino property. He married Miss Robinson, daughter of an old settler who'died recently; and a few years later dissolved partnership with his brother and'took a farm on Makara Road, Stanway, where he'carried on a successful dairy farm for many years, •• till failing health forced him to give up the farm and come and live 1 in Feilding. He leaves a widow and ten childrenfour girls and six boys—to mourn their loss. The two married daughters are Mrs. dimming, of Feilding, and Mrs. Greer, of Taihape. His brothers are Messrs. James (Feilding), William (Makino), Thomas and Charles (Clarevflle, Wairarapa), and David (Carterton).. Mrs. Hercock, of Ohakune, is , his only living.aster.
