There were only four criminal cases, and His Honour j in his charge to the Grand Jury, said they wotjld have little difficulty in dealing with' them, and true bills were returned on each. ... Henry Morrison, who was charged (1) with discharging a revolver with intent to do'grievous bodily harm to Francis Adolplras Hughes; (2) with assaulting the same man and causing him actual bodily harm, was found guilty on the second count, with a recommendation to rnercy. He was fined £20, and to be imprisoned until the amount was paid, but not exceeding threo months/ The accused was sixty-three years of age. John Cane, charged with discharging firearms with intent to intimidate, was found not guilty. •' «..'.' William Henry Laythan, Sihge'r sewing, machine' employee, pleaded guilty to, misappropriation of £13, and wassentenced to hard labour ,for ■ twelve months. ; '.. In- the case of Romas Stone, charged with threatening with intent.to extort money;' accused failed to appear when called. Accused's counsel produced a letter in which accused said he had gone to the war as a motor transport driver. The, Crown Prosecutor; "He has been fined-four or five times for furious driving. If lie;does that- in war lie will probably get a medal." ; Bail, £100 in accused's own security, and £100 in his .brother's sureties, was cstroated.'
