PUBLIC SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS FIRST DAY'S PLAY. The. first day's play in connection with the Public Schools' Lawn Tennis Championships toot place on Saturday, anil tho tournament will be con'tinueU next Saturday. There were 418 entries for tho primary schools' events, which were commenced on the Brougham Hill courts, and 99 entries for the secondary schools' events, tho Wellington Courts in Palmer Street being occupied with tho opening rounds of this championship. In tho twelve years' history of the championships, the grand'total of 517 entries is a record. No fewer than thirteen different schools are represented.
