i SLANDER EXPOSED. The above plan of the propased. Waiuku railway shows (1) the position of the line in relation to the Ostrich Farm (the shaded patch); (2) the original proposal of tho line passing Tight through the centre of the farm; and (3) the Main Trunk railwaywhich passes close by the eastern side of the farm. The line as adopted is represented by the black line starting at the bottom left-hand corner of the plan and running in a north-easterly direction until it junctions with the Main Trunk line near the figure XI. The original proposal was to carry this railway as shown by the dotted line, through the shaded patch, which represents the> farm, junctioning with the Main Trunk line at Paerata. It will be seen that had Mr. Massey desired to benefit the property in which he is interested as alleged by his slanderers he could have adhered to the original survey; instead of which his ' Government accopted the Government Engineer's recommendation to change the route so that it ,inissed the farm altogether except for one smajl corner. But as the public records show it was the previous Government and not the Massey Government that recommended the construction of this railway before even Mr. Massey had a seat in the House of Representatives. Moreover, as will be seen from the plan the farm is already served and . has been for years by the Main Trunk line of railway, which skirts .the eastern side?'of the property, and the branch line is of no value io it. Thus is another slander of the Government .exposed. ...
