Children's Work for, Belgian Children.' •Threo littlo Collins, Dora Curtis, and Madge Griffiths liavo been working for the benefit of the Beluian children by organising a' Christmas tree and sale of hoiue-mado sweets; flow-ers-.and to.vss which was held yesterday afternoon. Tlie interior ot a brick building at the back of 48 Crawford Street, Kilbirnie, lent for the occasion by Mr. Cameron, had been decorated With flags and -foliage, and the Christmas tree (it is rather curious to .remember now that we are indebted'for tho Christmas tree custom to tho Germans) occupied a commanding position near the centre. This also was a .gift from Mr. Cameron, and.bytheend of .the afternoon it was stripped" of its toys and pretty things by the many children who thronged the building. In addition to tho sweets, which were largely the work of tllo as well as the in which they were encased, there were quantities of doll's' clothes for sale, .also their handiwork; and various little attractive trifles. ' A bran-tub offered fascinations to many children, and was ill the care of Miss Margaret Collins. Miss. Dora Curtis, assisted by Miss Victoria Chorley, waiT in"'charge of tho-sweets; Sirs. P. Curtis, the Christmas tree; toys and flowers, Mrs. Griffiths and Miss Madge Griffiths. Mrs. Collins was doorkeeper. The further 6nd of the. building bad been converted into a tea-room-, and was in the charge of Miss Curtis, Miss Cook, and Miss Brown. Y.M.C.A. AUxillary. - The annual .meeting of the above took, place on Thursday afternoon, and was .very largely attended. Reports oil the year's work were presented by Miss Li. Thompson (lion, secretary) and Miss Barnes (hon. treasurer). Miss Thompson's report showed that excellent progress had been made diiririg tlie year in the auxiliary's work—socials, bazaar, garden party, -Poor of Britain and Belgian Fund, etc.,-all having been sue-, cessful. Mrs. Lang, of Hyderabad, India, Mrs. M. A. .Williams, Mrs. Barnes, and Mrs. Dixon had been entertained during the winter at successful gatherings. Miss Barnes (hon. treapresented a financial statement showing that alter contributing £100 to the work of the association, a credit balance of £24 12s..'was in hand. Khandallah Ladles and the Belgians. , A meeting attended by about twenty ladies was held at the residence of Mr. 'C. C. Crump , (Mayor of Khandallah) 'last evening ill connection with the Belgian Christmas Gift Fund. Messrs. iC. % Wilson and :A. Marryat attended on behalf of tlie executive committee controlling the fund; and Mr. !■ Wilson explained the objects-/in view and invited the co-operation of those present in building Tip the fund.' The matter was taken up by the ladies with great enthusiasm, and a strong committee was elected to' actively canvass Khandallah for subscriptions. Mrs. C. 0. Crump was elected chairwoman; Mrs. Clark, honorary secretary;- and •Mrs. Young, honorary treasurer. St. John Ambulance Work "at Palmorsion./ Our special correspondent from Palmerston North writes that, at the animal meeting .of the St. John Ambulance .Nursing Division, was,held on Thursday evening, the report stated that 200 first-aid cases' we're attended, during the. year. The report'expressed regret that'members wore hot allowed to attend cases of accidents at, public functions such as the'show and races, where the authorities refused; to grant permission.-' It meant great discouragement to members.. ' Certificates were presented and- a social concert was-af-terwards held.

The retiring students of the Teachers' Training College were the guests last evening of the junior students at a farewell sooiaUand dance, which was held at the college. ■ At the- beginning of the year the junior students are entertained by the senior students, and in return this farewell evening is always given at the end of the year for the retiring students, Several ex-students were present as well, and a most enjoyable evening, that will leave pleasant .memories behind, was spent. The members of the Paraparaumu and AVaikanao Girls' Clubs 'wore tho guests of Mrs. -H.
