COUNTRY HOME BURNT
(By MeeraDl.—Pmes Association.) palmerston N ;) November 25. A disastrous-fire which was discovered in Mr. J. G. WUson's fine Bulls residence at 2 o'clock this afternoon'resulted in its total destruction, together with tfte beautiful gardens, surrounding fences, ornamental trees, gates, etc. ■ The outbreak, which was discovered by a servant, was iu the roof between the servants' bedroom and the kitchen chimney. A strong wind wrs blowing at the time, which assisted the flames to spread with marvellous rapidity! A large number of ' local' residents were quickly on the scene, but the fire had a very strong hold before the chemical engine arrived, and all efforts to save the building were futile. Through the assistance of willing hands a consider-' able quantity of. furniture was saved. The building contained from twelve to fourteen rooms, and was one of the finest residences in the district. Mr. , and Mrs. Wilson, their two daughters, and a servant wero at home at the time. . .
Tho insurances at the present time are not ascertainable, but it is understood the building and effects are insured- in the 'Farmers' Union Mutua] Insurance Office.
