NEW SOUTH WALES WHEAT SEIZURE

QUESTION FOR PREMIERS' CONFERENCE.

Melbourne, November 25. A conference of Premiers will meet at Melbourne to consider Mr. Holman's ivheat seizure. proposals. A deputation from the Millowners Association informed Mr. Tudor, Federal Minister of- Customs, ttiat Victoria's shortage is likely to. reach 1,500,000 bushels, and asked if the duty wae likely to be suspended so that they could arrange to obtain supplies elsewhere. Mr. Tudor promised to ■ refer, the question of the suspension of duties to the Cabinet.

November 25, 8.15 p.m.) Sydney, November 25. Mr. W. A. Holman (New South Wales Premier) has returned from the Premiers' conference at Melbourne. He says he -is hopeful that the Commonwealth States will act in unison in dealing with the wheat shortage question. The Bill will proceed to tho Assembly to-morrow. .■■.■>•

TOTALISATOR BILL IN NEW SOUTH WALES

MAJORITY , OF CABINET OPPOSEH TO THE PROPOSAL. Sydney, November 25. The Hon. J. H. Cann, Colonial Treasurer, has declined to take any steps regarding the totalisator till Mr. Holman' (Premier of New South Wales) has returned from Melbourne and the Cabinet has considered the matter. He made it clear, however, that the majority of the Ministers opposed the introduction, either as a State enterprise' or as a legalised method of gamb- ; lirig, and that tho Government was not prepared to introduce ,a further Bill. The majority of tho" caucus favoured 'the'measure, and it was consequently announced that one of tho Ministers would stand sponsor to the Bui. It is not expected to be introduced this .session.

• On appeal; Mr. Justice Cussen lias reduced the wapies of clerks, excepting in the metropolitan'area, as fixed by the Wages Board in. August. The wages' of women whose pay was fixed equal to that of men were also varied.
