The proceedingo at the Warden's Court, Thames, yesterday was of more than usual interest' owing to tho number, of - goldmining companiea seeking protection. These applications were the result of the stoppage of pumping by tho Thames Drainage Board,.'.jriiich has civused operations to cease in many'of the deeper levels. The financial stringency of the war has made it.'difficult, fdr' the. board to jet in payments from the companies, which in turn havo discovered that shareholders could not pay calls,, and so pumping operations ceased. Protection was granted for six months in all cases. Tho Warden, however, stipulated that the mines should, be thrown open_to tributers during the period for which protection woe granted. •
