A SIGNIFICANT. LETTER
iFrom Our Special Oorrespondent.l Chrlstchurch/ November ; 24y : The following significant letter appeared in the local papers to-day, writ-, ten by Mr. Gilby, a prominent Wardite. and secretary or the local .Liberal and Labour organisation"Permit' m« through the columns of ( your influential journal to bespeak for the Right Hon. the Prime Minister on the occasion of his addresß on Tuesday evening a fair and uninterrupted hearing; _ Abuse,; wo are told; is no arguinent, neither is-dis-courtesy to one's opponents. Those who differ,, as many of us do, from Mr. Massey politically, will assuredly be afford T ed an opportunity.of expressing our dissent in the orthodox way at the close' of the address,, and it is to. be .hoped that those speakers who follow Mr. Mas-. sey wiU also be accorded a fair hearing, whether they be' supporters or opponents. The last, time Mr. Massey addressed tho electors here, not only_ would the rowdy element not allow him to address the vast .audience, there assent bled, but neither: would the interrupters listen to prominent men in the Liberal and Labour, ranks, who might conceivr ably, have been anxious to inoye an amendment to. the resolution... Such', tactlessness on the part,-of a score or two of irresponsible individuals is both reprehensible and indefensible."
