PARCELS POST SYSTEM

IMPORTANT ALTERATIONS. From December 1 next important al-, terations will be made in the parcel post system. Until late in 1913 the limit of weight for parcels was 111b., but at tho time of the industrial strike • the limit was temporarily raised to 211b. to. meet the difficulties then experienced. The extent to which advantage was taken of tho extension showed that its continuanco would be warranted. It has now been decided to extend the weight limit to 281b. for places served by railway and steamer. Tho limit will remain at 111b. for plaoes served l by wheeled conveyance, and at 51b. for places served by pack-horso or on foot. A list showing the status of the various offices will be available for reference at all post offices. The charges have been fixed at 3d. for the first pound, lid. for each succeeding pound up to 131b., and Id. for each pound between 131b. and 281b;

The maximum length of 281b. parcels must not exceed; 3ft. 6in., and the maximum length and girth combined must not exceed 7ft. Tho maximum dimensions of parcels for 111b. offices and 51b. offices remain unchanged. For the benefit of thoso persons who desire-to have their parcels forwarded with the name celerity of dispatch as letters, an express transit servico has been established. Tho payment of the fee for an express transit parcel, 6d.,' will ensure that tho parcel shall bo forwarded by the first letter mail. An acknowledgment of posting will b'o Biipplicd free of charge to tho sender of each pared, and the Department undertakes to obtain a receipt from the addresses on delivery.
