Educational Demonstration at the Y.W.C.A. i The large room at the Y.W.C.A. was filled last evening to overflowing when a demonstration of the educational work carried on: bv the various circles which have been formed in connection with tho association was given by the girl members. An excellent programme . full of entertainment, and yet giving an excellent idea of the wide and varied course of study which is being pursued at the rooms had been • prepared, and it is quite • certain that some clever talent'is to -be found among the members. Mrs. Gorkill, vice-president, pres!?ju, and in a brief speech outlined the aims and work of tho various circles. After an exhibition of physical drill by the Hearth-Fire Girls, under the direotion of Miss Williamson, 8.A., Chief Guardian, which was very good indeed. Miss Baber addressed those present upon the subject of supplementary ■ education, and spoke of the great help it must be to, many girls who havo left school to find that thev can supplement their education in the various ways offered by tho Y.W.C.A., and also do a great amount of review work, picking up the threads which have been dropped for perhaps some years. She also touched upon the spirit of camaraderie and helpfulness which she had found among- members. Mrs. Hursthouse, president of the Te Pani Club, was to have spoken also, but unfortunately she was unable to attend. The Te Pani Club includes the Newtown, Hutt, and Y.W.C.A. Central Literary Circles, all of which have been studying Elizabethan literature. Nine members of the .Hutt Circle . took part in the sketch which was given, in costume,. from "The Mill on tho Floss," and which showed the possession of good miming' powers on the part of the performers. The'Newtown Circle was equally good in the bonnet scene from the ; same book, and another good performance was the sketch from "Cranford—Miss Betty's Tea Party"—by members of the Central Circle. A demonstration of first aid, by several members of the first-aid class, with Miss Mack as leader, was an interesting item. Another exhibition of phyic.il drill, this time by the seniors, undor tho direction of Mr. Threadgill, was much appreciated, and was followed by a cleverly performed comic sketch, "Mochauical Jane," by tho ©locution class (Mrs. Woods). Tho selections taken from the oratorio, .-"Christ and His Soldiers," sung by tho Lyric Club under tlie baton of Mr. F. S. Pope, were adlnirably given. The singing of tho National 'Anthem brought the programme to an end.
