VICTORIA CROSS NOBLY EARNED Paris, November 22. Lieutenant Dimmer, who has been awarded the Victoria Ctosb, commanded four Maxims. He was ordered to check the.Prussian Guards, whose attack was supported by a hail of shells which dismantled three of the Maxims. Lieutenant Dimmer nearly fainted from his ehrapnel wounds, and a comrade gave him brandy. The Germans, who were, advancing in close order, were mown down, in 'whole rows. All Lieutenant Dimmer's comrades weTO killed. He wallowed the rest of the brandy, and then emptied three belts of three hundred cartridges each before ho fell unconscious. The Germans were decimated and fled. English soldiers picked up Lieutenant Dimmer after the ■ battle.
