REBEL CHIEF DOUBLES AND .-TURNS (Rec. November 24, 0.55 a.m.) Pretoria, November 23. . Official.—The Union forces are hotly pursuing do Wet. The latter crossed' the Vet River, and headed towards Boshof (in the Bosliof division of tho Orange River Colony). He then divided his commando, and himself, with twenty-five, doubled back and attempted to cross into the Transvaal. He was driven back. A thousand of de Wet's followers, after hearing the amnesty proclamation at Groothock, abandoned their arms, and are now surrendering in batches. Several other batches have been captured, including sixty near Senekal, forty at Schaab Kraal, thirty at Middelfontein, and thirty near Harrismith. -De Wet's band pillaged Wunberg (in the Orange River Colony). General Botha's advance was so unexpected that the rebels were obliged to abandon much of their booty. The inhabitants declared that de Wot appeared half demented, and threatened to burn down the town of'■ Johannesburg. Loyal burghers have relieved Heilbron, and the railway communication with Johannesburg has been restored. Capo Town, November 23. Commandant Naudo, who, with Commandants Davel and Koen, and 300 men, attacked a rebel commando of 1600 (Naude and Davel being wounded), was rcsoned. He states that he wounded two of de Wet's sons, who surrendered.
