SPORT WITH THE RIFLE

WEEK-END MATCH. KARORI RIFLE CLUB. At Trentham on Saturday, in drizzly weather and a bad light, the Karori Glub concluded the competition confined to members who have joined the club sinco August 0. The winner proved to bo Rifleman M. K. Litchfield, who wins Mr. A. C. (Atkinson's presentation aperture sight, with an aggregate score of 126. Rifleman J. F. Burton takes second place, with a total of 125, and winsa club trophy value 20s. The trophies presented by President Marshall and Deputy-President Judd were won by Riilemen S. C. G. Downard and O. E. Morrison, with scores of 121 , and 120 respectively. The 1 shooting of the junior members on the whole was very fair, and the handicapper is to be congratulated on the sporting finishes he produced. Next Saturday the club gets down to serious business, when teams matches will be commenced over ranges 500 and COO yards, and concluded on December 5 over ranges 800 and 1000 yards. OLd'nAVALS' CLUB. A friendly match with the Defence Rifle Club was tired on the. Miramar range on Saturday : afternoon, over ranges of 300 and 500 .yards, with seven shots and sightor at each' range. The weather conditions were-not conducive to high scoring, but some very creditable results were attained. President J. Rabe-topped tho list with 34 at 300 ; yards and 31 at COO yards, whilst Rifleman R. Bishop succeeded in getting 27 at 300 yards and 35 (a possible) at 500 yards. The possible. registered by "Bob" Bishop is the first recorded on tho new range, and ho was heartily congratulated on his achievement. There had been, a special trophy presented by Rifleman R. C. Collins at the opening of the range for the first possible scored and it must be gratifying to the donor to see a handicap man carry it off. The handicap match for President Rabe's trophy for those members not competing m the teams match resulted in a win for Rifleman G. Dixon (one of this year's new members) with a score of 23 at 300 yards and 26 at 500 yards (handicap 4—53). Rifleman J. Alexander was runner-up with 49. Next Saturday the club will commence its second series of competitions, for which. 6tx prizes are allotted, presented by, the Hon. 0. J. Johnson, Major A. G. Hume; Lieut. M. E. Denniston, President J. Rabe, and club trophies. The ranges will be '300 and 600 yards, 10 s'kote and.sighter at each range. SUBURBS CLUB. The Suburbs Rifle Club held their first, competition on Saturday last at the club range Miramar. The weather again was not to the liking of the competitors, and many times it was impossible to pick the wind. The ranges fired' at were 300, 500, and 600 yards, seven shots, Rifleman J. Smart heing top with 90. On Wednesday the club will complete the first match in the first'' series. On Saturday next the club will fire the second match in the first series at ranges 300 and. 600 yards, -ten. -shots. The club this year is divided into three classes. By the brilliant shooting done on Saturday in boisterous weather, the competitions promise to be very keen. Rifleman S. Shearer, B Class, deserves to be congratulated on liis fine score, this being his first season rifle shooting.
