RANGIURU EGG RANCH
WINS INTERNATIONAL LAYING , COMPETITION. ;. ' Mr. E. Hopkins, proprietor of : the Rangiu'ru Egg R an oh, Otaki, has recently received intimation from America that his pen of six White; Leghorn pullets won .-the Great International Egg-laying' Competition held at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. ■ There were representative breeders competing from England and America. The'winning pen laid 1330 eggs during the contest (11 months), and Mr. Hopkins' birds won by 98. This is easily a Canadian record, and compares favourably with the scores in Australasian competitions. The climate In Canada (says an exchange) is not so suitable for heavy laying as burs, as it varies enormously in the seasons. The hens, too, were not fed with any fresh Taw meat. • ■ The first prize was 100 dollars. Mr. Hopkins also sold the pen of birds for 80 dollare, and has received numerous orders for stock, bothfrom the.United States and Canada. . The Rangiuru poultry farm has now won two. egg-laying competitions, and hae been second in_ another. Mr.'Hopkins's win is attribute to hiV careful and skilful management, and also to the' suitability of the Otaki. district for poultry farming. '•'•.. . .
